Biography

Jana Sim is a book artist born and raised in Korea.
In 2002, she moved to the United States to study art.
While majoring in painting at the University of Illinois 

at Urbana-Champaign, she discovered book arts and 

quickly became captivated by it.
She later earned her MFA in Book & Paper from

Columbia College Chicago.
Her works have been showcased in international 

exhibitions and are part of collections at universities, 

museums, and with private collectors.

In 2012, she returned to Korea and began learning 

traditional Korean latticework from her father, a master 

artisan recognized as Seoul’s Intangible Cultural Heritage.
She started combining book arts with traditional lattice 

designs,creating works that connect personal stories 

with Korean traditions.
Her work explores themes of memory and connection,
offering a unique and meaningful artistic perspective.

심자나는 한국에서 태어나고 자란 북 아티스트로, 

2002년 미국으로 건너가 예술 공부를 시작했습니다. 

일리노이 대학교 어바나-샴페인 캠퍼스에서 회화를 전공하던 중 

북아트를 접하며 매료되었고, 

이후 컬럼비아 칼리지 시카고에서 북 & 페이퍼 프로그램으로 

MFA를 취득하였습니다. 

그녀의 작품은 국제적으로 여러 전시를 통해 소개되었으며, 

대학, 박물관, 개인 소장가들에 의해 소장되고 있습니다.

2012년 한국으로 돌아온 그녀는 서울시 무형유산 소목 창호장인 

아버지에게 전통 창호 제작 기술을 배우며, 

북아트와 전통 창호를 결합하는 작업을 시작했습니다. 

그녀의 작업은 전통창호와 개인의 이야기를 연결하며, 

기억과 연결을 주제로 독창적인 작품세계를 만들어가고 있습니다.
